Hotels
The Tower Hotel (a Thistle hotel)
The Tower Hotel offers a prime location directly adjacent to the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. Its proximity to these major attractions, along with rooms that offer direct river views out onto Tower Bridge, makes it a popular choice for families.
Although the ‘family rooms‘ only accommodate up to three people (with one being on a sofa bed), the hotel does offer a number of interconnecting rooms. There is no option to book interconnecting rooms online, so you would need to get in touch with the hotel directly to enquire about the possibility of this. Suite rooms come equipped with kitchenette.
Good for:
- Location, it’s right next to St Katharine Docks and its wide range of restaurants
- Views (if staying in a Tower Bridge view room)
- The possibility of interconnecting rooms
Bad for:
- Modern rooms, the hotel is quite dated in parts
- Cheap breakfasts (but there are plenty of places nearby to buy food)
Premier Inn London City (Tower Hill)
Premier Inn is an excellent family-friendly hotel chain in London. They offer consistent, reliable accommodation with spacious family rooms and budget-friendly rates.
The Premier Inn London City (Tower Hill) location provides easy access to the Tower of London and Tower Bridge as well as Tower Hill tube station and Tower Gateway DLR station. Located nearby are a range of restaurants (including Pizza Union – an excellent budget-friendly option) and pubs that serve food, along with convenience grocery stores.
The family rooms can accommodate up to two adults, two children (age 15 and under) and a child under two (in a cot). Travel cots are available at no extra cost. However, baby blankets are not provided.
Do note that this hotel is located right next to the DLR and some rooms will overlook the train lines. This is great for kids who love trains, but if you are sensitive to noise, ask for a quiet room.
Good for:
- Families who all want to be able to be in one room.
- Those on a budget
- Free breakfast for kids – when an adult orders a Premier Inn Breakfast, up to two kids eat breakfast for free.
Bad for:
- A guaranteed bath, some rooms only have showers.
Leonardo Royal London City
The Leonardo Royal City Hotel is a contemporary and family-friendly option in the Tower Hill area. Located just around the corner from Tower Hill tube station and right next to part of the old Roman wall, this hotel is a convenient and comfortable base for families looking to explore the attractions of central London.
Families are well catered to with up to two adults and two children (age 2-12) being accommodated in rooms with two Queen size beds (rather than sofa beds, like many family rooms in other hotels).
Good for:
- Easy access to Tower Hill tube station
- Proper beds
- Staff who are great with kids
- Those who want a pool (although note that access with children is restricted to certain times)
Bad for:
- Cheap breakfast (children under 12 eat free but children over 12 are charged full price)
- Some rooms have underwhelming views
